On Tuesday afternoon, the NCAA met with the Memphis officials to decide former Missouri transfer Michael Dixon’s fate as a basketball player. At first the NCAA denied the request but Memphis appealed it. On Wednesday, the decision was made by the NCAA and Memphis won the appeal meaning that Michael Dixon will be able to play in his final year of eligibility.
Michael Dixon will be a big help for the Memphis Tigers. The Tigers now have four senior guards in Dixon himself, Joe Jackson, Geron Johnson, and Chris Crawford. They will be the leaders on this team and hopefully everyone else will be able to get with the program that Pastner has in mind.
Before Dixon arrived at Memphis, he was a awesome, sensational guard at Missouri. In the 2011-2012 season, Dixon won the Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year award. In the following season, Dixon was a preseason All-American second team pick in the Big 12. He would end up not playing last season due to his troubles off of the court. Two sexual accusations were made against him but no charges were filed in either case.
Now the 6-1, 190-pound guard can focus on his basketball career. His dad seems happy with the decision.
“I’m mean, I’m at work and all these people are probably looking at me like, ‘What is going on with him?’ “, said an excited and sincere Michael Dixon Sr. “I’m going away from my desk and crying a little bit here. God is something else.”
Coach Pastner did not comment on the matter. He made the official announcement at a press conference held at the University of Memphis. This is great news for the basketball program.
Now people can relax and gradually get ready for the college basketball season. Michael Dixon Sr. had more to say on the situation.
“Like I’ve said from the beginning, Michael has been raised correctly. He’s got great parents — I’m going to pat myself on the back — tremendous grandparents and uncles and aunts who love him,” said Dixon Sr. “Michael has made some very poor decisions. Very poor. Those decisions cost him dearly. But Michael has never been a rapist, and anybody who knows him knows that his biggest flaw is he wants to be with everybody and he wants to please everybody. He has to learn how to put boundaries around himself, and this is a way of God showing him that he’s gotta change in that aspect, and he has made changes.”
